Bella
Innocent little baby pygmy possum rescued from a bathroom, let’s help others!
About Bella
This tiny little baby Pygmy Possum was found and rescued from a bathroom on Kangaroo Island. She is so adorable and so small that her weight barely registers on the scales. Emily Kangala rescued her; she is a volunteer, carer, and rescuer for Kangala Rescue.
It’s our job to help save more! Mountain pygmy-possums were believed extinct, known only from fossils, until a living specimen turned up in a ski lodge in Mt Hotham in 1966. The genus Cercartetus. Burramys contains only one surviving species – the Mountain Pygmy Possum – and three other extinct species are identified from fossils.
There are perhaps fewer than 2,000 left, restricted to alpine areas where they hibernate beneath the snow during winter.
